Around 1972 I started to become aware of a strange presence, photographs,
bizarre illustrations, and book covers, weird newspaper headlines
referencing“clockwork orange” gangs, graffiti appeared at our local railway
station
“MECHANICAL BANANAS”
What was going on?
then on a school trip we wandered into a bookshop and there it was….on a display stand was Anthony Burgess republished novella with new
artwork by David Pelham and I have to admit that in my excitement I forgot to
pay for it.
Soon afterwards our English teacher told us he had seen the film and brought
in the soundtrack…so many questions,
what WERE those sounds? the costumes, the nadsat, the architecture,…the plain weirdness of it. A cousin of mine had found his own route to it and
as a “surprise” one evening dressed me as Alex and I was made to stand motionless at the top of the stairs…my first piece of performance art. I realise now just how influential the book and album were to me, they led me down so many interesting paths…brutalist architecture, language, costume,
striking use of visuals, and of course the possibilities of electronic music…
YOU ARE INVITED.

This is a great initiative and in support of a great cause, with lots of fascinating music responding to the crazy situation we've all been in for the last few months. One to look back on when this is all over and it will be very evocative of what we've lived through. Excellent stuff nickdrewski

I've never heard any of these artists before but...wait.....maybe I have..? ....in the haunted recesses of my childhood TV memories perhaps? Have you always been there? You're still here?? What do you want from me!!!? (runs to the cobwebbed, cement nuclear fallout shelter in the backyard) anvil_head_music
